Cryptocurrency exchange Bitget is preparing to enter the United States market in 2027, despite continued uncertainty surrounding digital asset regulations. Chief Executive Officer Gracy Chen has reaffirmed the company’s expansion plans, emphasizing that its long-term strategy remains unchanged even after the proposed CLARITY Act failed to advance.

The legislation, intended to establish clearer regulatory guidelines for cryptocurrencies, faced opposition in the US Senate over concerns about potential conflicts of interest involving government officials and their cryptocurrency businesses.

Nevertheless, Chen believes the broader regulatory environment has become increasingly supportive of digital assets since early 2025.

Bitget Advances US Expansion Plans

Bitget intends to launch a dedicated US website in 2027, while its local team has already begun pursuing the necessary regulatory licenses.

Chen has also been visiting the United States regularly to engage with regulators and potential business partners.

The exchange views the American market as a significant long-term growth opportunity, although Chen acknowledged that establishing operations would require substantial investment and careful regulatory planning.

Rather than accelerating its expansion, Bitget intends to follow a gradual approach focused on compliance and sustainable market entry.

Exchange Strengthens Security Following $388 Million Hack

The expansion strategy comes shortly after Bitget suffered a major cybersecurity breach in September 2026, resulting in approximately $388 million in stolen cryptocurrency assets.

According to the company, attackers exploited vulnerabilities involving third-party products, raising concerns about exchange security and customer protection.

Following the incident, Bitget replaced compromised credentials, investigated security weaknesses and collaborated with cybersecurity specialists Mandiant and SlowMist.

The exchange has also expanded its use of artificial intelligence to strengthen security monitoring, detect suspicious activity and improve fraud prevention.

Bitget utilized its existing protection fund to compensate affected wallets before replenishing the fund with more than $300 million from company reserves.

Chen acknowledged that rebuilding customer confidence remains an important priority.

Southeast Asian Expansion and IPO Ambitions

Alongside its American expansion, Bitget is strengthening its presence across Southeast Asia.

On October 20, the company announced plans to enter Thailand through the proposed acquisition of Bangkok-based cryptocurrency exchange GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics.

Bitget is also evaluating opportunities in Indonesia and Vietnam, particularly where regulatory frameworks support licensed cryptocurrency operations.

However, Chen indicated that Singapore and Hong Kong are currently less attractive expansion destinations because of market conditions and compliance considerations.

Looking further ahead, Bitget is considering an initial public offering within the next five years.

The company’s expansion strategy reflects its ambition to establish a stronger international presence while balancing regulatory requirements, cybersecurity challenges and investor confidence.

Its success will depend on securing regulatory approvals, restoring customer trust and maintaining financial stability across increasingly competitive cryptocurrency markets.
