Apple Seeks Stablecoin and Blockchain Expertise for Apple Pay

Apple and Google have posted job openings seeking expertise in stablecoins and tokenized deposits, indicating that both technology giants are examining how digital-asset infrastructure could fit into existing payments, financial services and cloud businesses.

Apple is recruiting a Financial Product Strategy Lead for its Apple Pay team in New York. The role focuses on developing strategies for products including Apple Card and Apple Cash within the company’s Wallets, Payments and Commerce organization.

The position involves evaluating new product structures, commercial models and potential partnerships. Among its preferred qualifications are knowledge of stablecoins, tokenized deposits and blockchain technology. Candidates are also expected to understand areas such as peer-to-peer payments, credit cards and international payment systems.

Google Cloud Expands Web3 and Stablecoin Expertise in Hong Kong

Google is hiring an Industry Principal Architect for Web3 in Hong Kong as part of Google Cloud. The role involves advising blockchain foundations, exchanges, custodians and fintech companies while identifying challenges across the Web3 sector and contributing to Google Cloud’s product strategy.

The posting seeks expertise in stablecoin payment systems, tokenized deposits and digital-asset custody, alongside knowledge of blockchain validators and smart contracts. Familiarity with Hong Kong’s regulatory environment, including requirements overseen by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and Securities and Futures Commission, is also listed.

Apple and Google Target Different Digital-Asset Use Cases

The two roles suggest different potential applications. Apple’s position is closely connected to consumer-facing financial products and payment services, while Google’s role emphasizes institutional infrastructure, cloud services and digital-asset businesses.

Google’s Hong Kong position is notable because the company already participates in blockchain-related initiatives, including support for digital-asset infrastructure and the Open USD stablecoin project. The regional role could help deepen relationships with institutions across Asia’s developing digital-asset market.

However, neither job listing confirms plans to launch a proprietary stablecoin or introduce a specific crypto payment product. The postings instead indicate that both companies are building internal expertise and evaluating potential uses for blockchain-based financial infrastructure.

Stablecoin Adoption Expands Across Payments and Technology Firms

The hiring activity comes as major payments and technology companies increasingly explore stablecoin applications. Visa and Mastercard, for example, have expanded efforts involving stablecoin settlement infrastructure.

For Apple and Google, the recruitment suggests stablecoins are being considered beyond their traditional cryptocurrency use cases. Their potential role in payments, tokenized deposits, custody and institutional financial infrastructure is becoming an area of strategic interest, although concrete products or partnerships would depend on further business decisions and regulatory developments.

The listings therefore provide evidence of exploration, not confirmation, and neither company has announced a stablecoin launch yet.
