Ant International is expanding its use of tokenized deposits for cross-border treasury management through partnerships with HSBC and OCBC, extending blockchain-based payment corridors.
The company’s WhaleRTP platform, a distributed-ledger treasury management system, is now supported by more than 20 banks and enables real-time transfers across more than 17 currencies.
HSBC Expands Tokenized Deposit Transfers in the Middle East
With HSBC, the expansion focuses on the Middle East. Ant International has completed pilot transactions involving tokenized UAE dirham transfers within the country, alongside cross-border U.S. dollar transfers from the UAE to Hong Kong and Singapore.
HSBC’s Tokenised Deposit Service also supports euros, pounds, Hong Kong dollars and Singapore dollars. Ant International said the infrastructure could support its regional operations and help the company build a regional treasury hub in the Middle East.
OCBC Enables 24/7 Tokenized Treasury Transfers Between Singapore and Malaysia
Separately, OCBC has expanded its collaboration with Ant International to support tokenized deposit-based treasury management between Singapore and Malaysia. The service is designed to enable corporate users to move Singapore dollar and U.S. dollar liquidity between the two markets around the clock.
The developments reflect growing interest among banks and financial institutions in digital tokenized deposits as an alternative infrastructure for corporate payments and liquidity management. Unlike stablecoins, tokenized deposits represent commercial-bank deposits recorded on distributed ledger infrastructure, keeping the underlying funds within the regulated banking system globally.
Ant International Builds on Its Blockchain Treasury Network
Ant International has used blockchain and tokenized deposit technology for treasury management since 2019. Its latest partnerships add new corridors rather than creating an entirely separate payment network, highlighting the company’s strategy of connecting existing banking infrastructure through WhaleRTP.
Blockwind News ANALYSIS
The bigger story is not simply that Ant International has added more tokenized-deposit partners. It is building a network where corporate treasury can operate continuously across borders, currencies and banking systems.
The Middle East expansion is significant because the UAE is positioning itself as a major digital-asset and financial-services hub. If tokenized deposits can make corporate liquidity movements faster while preserving the protections of regulated bank money, demand could grow beyond crypto-native companies.
However, the real test will be interoperability. Ant’s model currently depends on connecting individual banks and corridors, meaning scale may require extensive coordination between institutions. The addition of OCBC and HSBC shows progress, but a truly global treasury network will need common standards, broader bank participation and reliable 24/7 settlement.
For traditional finance, tokenized deposits may ultimately prove more consequential than speculative crypto assets because they target a practical problem: moving regulated money efficiently across borders.
