The theft occurred around October 29, 2026, and was identified as TraderTraitor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Binance co-chief executive Richard Teng described a major attack on its hot wallets. The FBI said hackers converted stolen assets into Ethereum and may launder them through decentralised finance platforms and instant swap services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>North Korea&#8217;s TraderTraitor Group Linked to Binance Hack<\/strong> <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">US cybersecurity authorities associate TraderTraitor with North Korean state-sponsored activity dating to at least 2020. The group is believed connected to the wider Lazarus network. Its reported tactics include spear-phishing and malware.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Binance Responds to $6.3 Billion Crypto Theft<\/strong> <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Binance suspended deposits and withdrawals while reviewing security, freezing funds and working with law enforcement. The exchange said it had covered approximately 90% of the stolen value and was gradually restoring withdrawals. The remaining tokens were described as less liquid and slower to replace. Teng said Binance would cover all losses using company funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Blockwind News Analysis: Security Risks Exposed by Binance Hack<\/strong> <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The alleged theft exposes the risks of exchanges holding substantial customer funds in connected hot wallets. Public Ethereum transactions can be tracked, but rapid swaps and decentralised platforms complicate intervention. Recovery may depend on cooperation between exchanges and authorities across jurisdictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Binance\u2019s reimbursement commitment may limit immediate customer losses, but compensation cannot replace prevention. Exchanges need stronger access controls, wallet separation, continuous monitoring and transparent incident disclosures. The reported scale also highlights how state-linked groups continue exploiting weaknesses across digital asset infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the industry, the lesson extends beyond one exchange.
