His responsibilities covered retail banking services and did not include handling applications for business credit facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hong Kong Bank Manager Accepted Over $470,000 in USDT Bribes<\/strong> <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ICAC said Lam conspired with a fintech company employee and other associates to receive USDT worth more than US$470,000, equivalent to about HK$3.7 million. The cryptocurrency payments were allegedly used to facilitate the illegal authentication of multiple false standby letters of credit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fraudulent documents were subsequently used as guarantees for insurance-related investment transactions without authorization from the bank. The scheme exposed CCB (Asia) to financial and reputational risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lam pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy for an agent to accept advantages under Hong Kong\u2019s Prevention of Bribery Ordinance and Crimes Ordinance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Court Sentences Former Bank Manager to Four Years in Prison<\/strong> <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the District Court, Judge Ernest Lin Kam-hung said the seriousness of the offense was greater than in comparable cases because the forged documents could damage Hong Kong\u2019s reputation as an international financial centre and expose the bank to significant potential risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The judge adopted a six-year starting point for sentencing before reducing the term by one-third because of Lam\u2019s guilty plea, resulting in a four-year prison sentence. The court also ordered Lam to repay approximately HK$3.7 million to CCB (Asia), corresponding to the value of the bribes he received.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ICAC said those involved attempted to conceal the corrupt transactions by using cryptocurrency to channel the bribe payments indirectly. However, the use of digital assets did not prevent investigators from uncovering the scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hong Kong Investigation Continues as Authorities Target Digital Asset Crime<\/strong> <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The commission has also applied for arrest warrants against other individuals allegedly connected to the case, indicating that investigations remain ongoing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The case underscores how stablecoins such as USDT can be exploited in financial crime while remaining subject to regulatory and law-enforcement scrutiny.
