This timely event brought together diverse perspectives from prominent figures in the virtual asset service providers (VASP) space, legal experts, former regulators, and ex-central bankers. Proponents and opponents of using Bitcoin as a central bank reserve weighed in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"975\" height=\"549\" src=\"https:\/\/blockwind.io\/hk-en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-17.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12399\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.7727272727272727;width:624px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blockwind.io\/hk-en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-17.png 975w, https:\/\/blockwind.io\/hk-en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-17-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/blockwind.io\/hk-en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-17-767x432.png 767w, https:\/\/blockwind.io\/hk-en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-17-859x484.png 859w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 975px) 100vw, 975px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While many ex-officials, academics, and industry players voiced their support for a Bitcoin-denominated reserve, Ju-Chun (JC) Ko, a current Tech Legislator at-large representing the blockchain and fintech communities, quantified the concept.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Known as the \u201cCrypto Congressman,\u201d JC Ko emphasized the potential benefits of establishing a Bitcoin strategic reserve. \u201cI also call for and hope to discuss with everyone the establishment of Taiwan\u2019s Bitcoin strategic reserve. I propose setting aside about 0.1% of GDP or the equivalent in USD, which might be around $600 to $700 million,\u201d Ko said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"704\" height=\"545\" src=\"https:\/\/blockwind.io\/hk-en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-18.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12400\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.2919254658385093;width:624px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blockwind.io\/hk-en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-18.png 704w, https:\/\/blockwind.io\/hk-en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-18-300x232.png 300w, https:\/\/blockwind.io\/hk-en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-18-284x220.png 284w, https:\/\/blockwind.io\/hk-en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-18-361x279.png 361w, https:\/\/blockwind.io\/hk-en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-18-529x410.png 529w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 704px) 100vw, 704px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">JC Ko has been an advocate for the adoption of blockchain technology and Web 3.0 as a pathway to empowerment. \u201cThrough the spirit of transparency, decentralization, and openness of Web 3.0, coupled with blockchain and smart contract technology, we believe government governance can be made more transparent and efficient, empowering people with more open and free rights, thus ensuring social justice and safety,\u201d Dr. Ko noted on <a href=\"https:\/\/juchunko.com\/en-US\/docs\/act\/blockgov\"><strong>his personal website<\/strong><\/a>. This reflects his personal mission and views on the latest Government Blockchain Proposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regarding the legislative process, JC Ko expressed his desire for swift support from the Legislative Yuan and&nbsp; \u201cpass the Virtual Asset Service Providers bill as soon as possible, providing an ideal supportive environment for Taiwan to continue thriving in the digital asset sector,\u201d Ko said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr. Chen Chong, another proponent, highlighted the potential of Bitcoin to act as a hedge against economic uncertainties. \u201cBitcoin\u2019s decentralized nature and limited supply make it an attractive asset for diversifying national reserves. Former Central Bank Deputy Governor Hsu Jiadong expressed skepticism, citing Bitcoin\u2019s volatility and lack of stability. \u201cBitcoin fails the basic tests of stability against inflation, creating returns, and delivering value and stable interest for investors. JC Ko highlighted the importance of effective governance and communication between government agencies and industry stakeholders. \u201cTaiwan\u2019s strong background in cryptography and cybersecurity positions it well for the development of digital asset management technologies,\u201d Ko noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the global financial landscape continues to evolve, the concept of Bitcoin strategic reserves presents both opportunities and challenges. While proponents see it as a means to enhance economic resilience and diversify national assets, opponents highlight concerns over stability and volatility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Will Taiwan fall behind in its race to create a legislative framework for its cryptocurrency industry?
