The consensus was clear: the biggest problem in artificial intelligence isn\u2019t just technical, but rooted in how a few tech giants control the top AI models\u2014dictating training, deployment, and even censorship. For meaningful innovation and fairness, decentralization is rising as the next frontier, with market-driven incentives lighting the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One possible solution and pathway to break the centralization of&nbsp; AI computer power \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bittensor.ai\/\"><strong>Bittensor<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s subnets\u2014powered by TAO token incentives\u2014offer a promising, decentralized shield against deepfakes and misinformation. Led by CH Egan, a content creator at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bitget.com\/\"><strong>Bitget<\/strong><\/a> and subnet evangelist, and Brad, CEO of Bitsensor, the discussion spotlighted why incentives can outperform algorithms. They were joined by Zerobit of <a href=\"https:\/\/talisman.xyz\/\"><strong>Talisman Wallet<\/strong><\/a> and Mathew Fuller of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northtensor.ai\/\"><strong>North Tensor<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Subnet Explained: Collaboration, Customization, and Incentives<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not everyone in the audience arrived knowing what a subnet was. Thankfully, the panel took pains to demystify it with help from Bittensor\u2019s core explainer. Bittensor is a decentralized network designed to power and share artificial intelligence models globally using blockchain. At its heart are the TAO token and subnets. This duo forms a transparent, open platform where:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Anyone can participate, joining the network to share computational resources, train AI models, and earn TAO rewards for value contributed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Subnets are specialized mini-networks built for distinct tasks. If one community wants to fight deepfakes, they launch a subnet tailored to that. Another might focus on fraud detection, translation, or medical imaging.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>TAO tokens power transactions and reward contributors, making Bittensor a market-driven ecosystem for AI innovation. This incentive structure means improvement never stops and competition fosters breakthroughs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBittensor uses Bitcoin\u2019s model to solve [centralization] for AI. With centralized AI, like OpenAI, one authority decides how models are trained, what data they use, what biases they have, and what they censor. \u2026 Bittensor applies the same idea to AI,\u201d explained xTAO CEO Karia Samaroo in an earlier interview with crypto.news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Incentives: The Engine of Deepfake Defenses<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"blob:https:\/\/blockwind.io\/4232de7e-e1a5-48b2-868e-25eefcad44b6\" width=\"337\" height=\"302\"><\/strong>(CH Egan, Taiwan-based subnet investor)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CH Egan didn\u2019t mince words: <em>\u201cScams, deepfake scams\u2014$200 million were lost in the first quarter of this year alone, and $40 billion could be lost by 2024. The subnet owner creates an incentive\u2014\u2018If you detect deepfakes, you\u2019ll be rewarded in TAO.\u2019 That motivates people to contribute resources and skills. What\u2019s more, our decentralized approach reached 88% accuracy in detection, while centralized companies managed only about 69%. That difference is massive.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brad, CEO of Bitsensor, reinforced why these incentives are a game changer: <em>\u201cWith Bittensor\u2019s market incentives, you have to do the best, because you\u2019re in a real free market. If your deepfake detection isn\u2019t top-tier, someone else will surpass you, leading to a flywheel of optimization. You get genuinely better solutions every cycle.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Transparency: Why Open Networks Crush Black Boxes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The system isn\u2019t just smart\u2014it\u2019s transparent. As CH Egan explained:<em>\u201cBecause everything is open source on Bittensor, there\u2019s nothing to hide. You can verify all the data and benchmarks. The compounding effect is astronomical compared to closed systems.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This means users, developers, and researchers can audit results publicly, turning the network itself into a self-correcting, ever-improving digital immune system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How Subnets and TAO Work Together<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bittensor protocol is built on two principles:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Specialization: Subnets are launched for distinct tasks. Just look at Bitcoin\u2014the world\u2019s biggest computer network.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Taiwan: The Silicon Backbone of Decentralized AI<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CH Egan, who moonlights as subnet champion after his day job at Biget, highlighted Taiwan\u2019s unique advantage:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cTaiwan is huge in the chip world, thanks to TSMC \u2014 the world\u2019s top chipmaker. No TSMC, no AI. Taiwan\u2019s tech edge makes decentralized AI cheaper and more scalable.
