The cryptocurrency market is facing a mixed session today, with regulatory battles, security breaches, institutional developments, and sharp altcoin moves dominating the headlines. From Poland\u2019s renewed push to regulate cryptoassets to a $75 million DeFi exploit on Cronos, here are the key developments investors and industry participants are watching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland to Vote on Overriding Crypto Regulation Veto<\/strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland\u2019s lower house, the Sejm, is expected to vote this week on whether to override President Karol Nawrocki\u2019s third veto of legislation designed to regulate the country\u2019s cryptoasset sector. Sejm Speaker W\u0142odzimierz Czarzasty announced the vote on August 28, turning the long-running dispute over Poland\u2019s implementation of the European Union\u2019s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework into a major political test.

The legislation has become particularly controversial following the collapse of Polish cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto. Prime Minister Donald Tusk\u2019s coalition does not currently hold the three-fifths majority required to overturn the presidential veto, meaning the outcome could depend on opposition lawmakers. Tusk has nevertheless pushed for the vote, linking the wider Zondacrypto controversy to political circles associated with the Law and Justice (PiS) party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Polish prosecutors are investigating alleged offences involving Zondacrypto funding connected to foundations associated with former PiS Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro, pro-PiS broadcaster TV Republika and the 2025 CPAC Poland conference. Nawrocki, who is backed by PiS, has argued that the proposed rules could overregulate the industry and encourage crypto businesses to move abroad.

The collapse of Zondacrypto has also intensified pressure for stronger oversight. Thousands of customers reportedly lost access to funds, with estimated losses reaching at least PLN350 million (\u20ac80.6 million), while another estimate puts total client losses as high as PLN2.4 billion.

Cronos Halts Blockchain After $75 Million Tectonic Exploit<\/strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Security concerns are also dominating DeFi after Cronos halted its blockchain following an attack on Tectonic, its largest lending protocol. The exploit is estimated at around $75 million and involved manipulation of Tectonic\u2019s thinly traded TONIC token.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to blockchain data, the attacker pushed TONIC\u2019s price roughly 100-fold within about 20 minutes. The artificially inflated tokens were then deposited into Tectonic as collateral, allowing the attacker to borrow other, more valuable assets. TONIC had limited liquidity, with approximately $1.34 million in liquidity and only around $11,000 in daily trading volume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The impact on Tectonic was dramatic. Its total value locked fell from approximately $121.7 million on August 26 to around $3 million by Monday. Cronos validators subsequently paused the blockchain, preventing transactions from continuing while the situation was assessed. As of Monday morning, neither Cronos nor Tectonic had announced a confirmed loss figure or a timetable for restarting the network.

The incident highlights a growing DeFi vulnerability: accepting low-liquidity tokens as collateral can create opportunities for price manipulation, allowing attackers to borrow assets against valuations that do not reflect genuine market liquidity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CLARITY Act Could Support 230,000 US Crypto Jobs<\/strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the United States, attention remains focused on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act. Ripple Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty has argued that clearer federal crypto rules could support employment and economic growth in the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An industry-commissioned study cited by Pluang estimates that the US crypto sector directly employs around 34,000 people and supports approximately 232,000 jobs across related industries. The sector is also estimated to contribute more than $55 billion to the US economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Senate is scheduled to hold a cloture vote on September 15. The legislation seeks to clarify the division of regulatory responsibilities between the SEC and CFTC and establish clearer classifications for digital assets.

PROM Surges 326% in 30 Days<\/strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

PROM has emerged as one of the strongest-performing crypto assets recently, gaining approximately 326% over the past 30 days and 176% over seven days. The token also recorded a 48% rise over a recent 24-hour period.

Capital flows have supported the rally, with around $5.47 million in recent net inflows and approximately $16.8 million in net inflows recorded over five days. However, negative funding rates are creating a warning signal, indicating growing short positioning and raising the possibility of a sharp correction if bearish pressure continues.

Monero Leads Weekend Crypto Gains<\/strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Bitcoin remained relatively stable near $78,000 and Ethereum posted only modest movement, Monero stood out among major cryptoassets. XMR gained approximately 9.9% to reach around $522.12 on August 31, according to market data cited by Pluang. The move occurred without a single confirmed catalyst and amid relatively thin trading activity, making the rally particularly notable.

<\/strong>Hilbert Group Reports Resilience<\/strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hilbert Group\u2019s Class B shares also drew attention after the company reported stronger fee-paying assets under management and management-fee revenue despite a difficult crypto market. Its Q2 2026 update indicated that management-fee revenue increased 74% quarter-on-quarter, while its investment strategies delivered positive returns despite Bitcoin falling 14% during the period.

Together, these developments underline the contrasting forces shaping crypto markets today: regulatory clarity is advancing in some jurisdictions, while exchange failures and DeFi exploits continue to expose structural risks. At the same time, sharp gains in assets such as PROM and Monero show that volatility remains a defining feature of the digital-asset market.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
