However, the strategy has yet to deliver the market boost many companies had hoped for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why Crypto Treasury Firms Are Pivoting to Artificial Intelligence<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Digital asset treasury (DAT) firms, which accumulated cryptocurrencies on their balance sheets to capitalise on rising token prices, were among the biggest beneficiaries of the crypto rally in 2024. Many saw their share prices significantly outperform the cryptocurrencies they held. But the sharp decline in crypto prices during 2026 has reversed that trend, leaving many treasury firms trading below the value of their digital asset holdings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In response, several companies have begun repositioning themselves around AI-related businesses, particularly data centre infrastructure and cloud computing. Despite these efforts, investor enthusiasm has remained muted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the companies making the transition is <strong>K Wave Media Ltd<\/strong>, which shifted its focus from Bitcoin accumulation to data centre development. Its shares have fallen more than 70% since the strategic pivot in May. <strong>Lixte Biotechnology Holdings<\/strong>&nbsp;also announced plans to merge with a battery technology company, while <strong>AlphaTON Capital<\/strong>&nbsp;rebranded as <strong>Alpha Compute Corp<\/strong>&nbsp;to reflect its AI ambitions. Both companies have experienced notable declines in their share prices following their announcements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Investor Interest Moves from Crypto Treasuries to AI Infrastructure<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Industry experts say the shift reflects changing investor priorities rather than a lack of confidence in blockchain technology. As major technology companies such as Alphabet, Microsoft, OpenAI and Anthropic continue investing billions of dollars into AI infrastructure, businesses linked to data centres and high-performance computing have become some of the strongest-performing stocks in global markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By contrast, cryptocurrency prices have struggled throughout 2026. Bitcoin remains well below its previous peak, while Ethereum has also recorded substantial losses this year. The weaker market has significantly reduced investor appetite for crypto treasury companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Legal advisers who previously helped launch numerous digital asset treasury firms report a noticeable change in client demand. Instead of establishing crypto-focused businesses, many companies are now exploring opportunities in AI infrastructure, cloud computing, space technology and advanced energy solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While some companies are abandoning crypto treasury strategies, analysts believe blockchain technology itself continues to attract long-term interest. Areas such as tokenization, blockchain-based payments and digital financial infrastructure are still viewed as promising growth sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Bitcoin Miners Repurpose Infrastructure for AI Workloads<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some former Bitcoin mining companies have also found success by repurposing their computing infrastructure for AI workloads. Firms including <strong>CoreWeave<\/strong>, <strong>Hut 8<\/strong>, <strong>Iren<\/strong>, and <strong>TeraWulf<\/strong>&nbsp;have attracted renewed investor attention after expanding into AI-related services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although the AI sector continues to draw significant investment, market observers caution that simply rebranding around artificial intelligence may not be enough.
